Bristol Temple Meads Quarter: Gateway Project – brief and call for ideas

Deadline: 28th February

How to make Bristol a welcoming place? Bristol Temple Meads is a key gateway to Bristol and is an important landmark in the city, used by thousands daily. But parts of the station and some of the approaches are confusing and lack interest. There is great potential for improvement and to encourage learning about the city .

This project – funded by Arts Council England through the Local Enterprise Partnership – will encourage the development of ideas for projects which would provide a better welcome to the city; help visitors learn more about the history of the area and Bristol; and guide them on their way easily and quickly to destinations.

It is being managed by Bristol Festival of Ideas.

It is an open call for ideas.

We encourage imaginative proposals: a short film, poster, cartoons, photography projects, essays, books, short story, piece of street art, street and station signage, drama performance and more…. It might be something projected onto a building as the train enters Temple Meads; it may be something given away to travellers as they get on the train; an event that takes place on a platform; new artwork in the station.

Further details including a map, history and other aspects of the site can be foundHERE.

You can also view a PDF map of the Temple Quarter zone HERE.
